Baraggia, the Biella savannah

A patch of land between Candelo and Cossato transports you to landscapes thousands of kilometers away.

A few kilometers from the infinite expanse of rice fields and overlooking the Biella pre-Alps, the Baraggia has a unique charm: in an instant you feel transported into the atmosphere of the immense African grasslands.

I'm not kidding: there are times when you expect, from one moment to the next, to see a family of giraffes, an elephant with its cub, in the dry grass you see a lion waiting for its prey.

In reality you are not far from Biella and Vercelli.

The prairie is dotted with skeletons of trees, victims of the underground water sources that periodically move. The sides of this small plateau are wooded, one of the last remnants of the forest that covered the entire Po Valley.

The Baraggia is a pleasure for the eyes and the soul, an alien landscape in which to spend a day outdoors behind the house.
